About the School

Founded in 1949, George Mason University, or GMU, is a public university. Located in Fairfax, Virginia, its 817-acre urban campus is 20 miles west of Washington D.C. Enrollment is approximately 26,000 undergraduate and 9,000 graduate students. George Mason is in the Atlantic 10 Conference in the NCAA Division 1. There are also club and intramural sports on campus. Around 7% of students participate in “Greek Life” across 41 fraternities and sororities. GMU has a Catholic Campus Ministry, Thomistic Institute chapter, and FOCUS ministry.
