About the School
Founded in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson, University of Virginia, or UVA, is a public university with an endowment over $5 billion. Located in Charlottesville, Virginia, its 1,682-acre rural campus is about 115 miles southwest of Washington D.C. Enrollment is approximately 16,777 undergraduate and 12,000 graduate students. Its acceptance rate is less than 25%. UVA is in the Atlantic Coast Conference in the NCAA Division 1. There are also club and intramural sports on campus. Around 35% of students participate in “Greek Life” across 63 fraternities and sororities. UVA has a Catholic Hoos student organization, Thomistic Institute chapter, and FOCUS ministry.
